Towards a Deeper Understanding of Rural Europe is co-financed by European Union in Promotion of Civil Society Dialogue Between EU and Turkey Project. Bilkent University Department of Communication and Design administrates the project.

Overall objectives of the project are;
• To promote dialogue between Turkish Universities and their EU counterparts on Research Methodologies and Approaches, as well as between Rural Communities on the EU Rural Policy (Agricultural and Regional Policies);
• To encourage exchange of knowledge and best practices on implementation of EU Rural Policy (Agricultural and Regional Policies) at Community-level;
• To ensure better knowledge and understanding of Rural Communities in Turkey within 2 EU Member States (France and Netherlands);
• Increasing the awareness of the opportunities and challenges of future enlargement in Turkey especially concerning Rural Policy (Agricultural and Regional Policies);
• To ensure a better knowledge and understanding of Rural communities in 2 Member States (France and Netherlands) within Turkey;
• To promote gender equality and equal opportunities, environment preservation and sustainable development at Community-level.

Our specific objective is building and institutionalising a Mutual Production-Oriented Cooperation between Universities of Turkey, France and Netherlands in both fields of Anthropology and Audiovisual Studies related to Rural Communities in Europe. Target groups are MA students in Anthropology, Ethnology or History; Media, Visual Arts or Communication; Academics specialised in Anthropology, Ethnology or Ethnography, History; Media, Audiovisual Arts or Communication; Rural Communities in Turkey, France and the Netherlands and rural inhabitants from these countries.

Main activities are;
• Orientation and Networking Management of the Project (Evaluation and Visibility tools; Kick-Off Meeting…)
• European Rural Community-based Audiovisual Surveys (Exchange of Knowledge Seminar; National pre-orientation training of students; Field Studies in 6 Selected Villages; National Final Symposiums…)
• Learning from Each Other to Create “Melting pot” Analyses (Exchange of Practices and Tools’ Workshop; Melting-Pot Articles and Films; Broadcastings the Films in Villages and Universities…)
• Giving the Floor to European Rural Peoples’ Assembly
• Final Multicultural Awareness-Raising Event (Multicultural and Audiovisual Tools; Final Dissemination Conference…)
